
For millennials of a certain disposition, Mewtwo is indisputably the coolest Pokémon in the world. If you count yourself among that crowd and you’ve still got Pokémon Go on your phone, we have good news.
Pokémon Go developer Scopely posted a quick notice on the game’s website alerting players that Armored Mewtwo, a special variant of the Psychic-type Pokémon that comes from the 2019 film Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution. That movie is actually a remake of the 1998 stone-cold classic Pokémon: The First Movie, in which Mewtwo was a central part of the plot. The original movie was kind of load bearing for anyone around my age, and we recently saw Mewtwo make an appearance in the Lego Smart Play Pokémon sets and new SanDisk drives.

If you want to catch Mewtwo in his sick armor in your Pokémon Go collection, it will appear in five-star raids from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time on Sept. 5 and 6, coinciding with the end of Pokémon Go Fest. This will be the first time Armored Mewtwo has been available since shortly before COVID hit the United States, so if you want one, consider that it might be a while before you get another chance.
It’s also worth mentioning that the shiny variant of Armored Mewtwo will not be available as part of this deal. Still, a non-shiny Armored Mewtwo is better than no Armored Mewtwo.
