Apple MacBook Pro and iMac Get M6 Chips and 24 Hours Battery

Apple has introduced updated versions of its 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac, bringing its latest M6 processor to both computers.

The new MacBook Pro replaces the M5-powered model introduced in 2025, while the iMac receives its first processor upgrade since the M4 version launched in 2024.

Both devices feature improved processing power, faster wireless connectivity, and additional AI capabilities.

Prices start at $1,999 for the MacBook Pro and $1,499 for the iMac, with pre-orders opening on October 28.

Faster M6 MacBook Pro

The updated 14-inch MacBook Pro features Apple’s M6 chipset with a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU.

The CPU uses a combination of two high-performance cores, four additional performance cores, and six efficiency cores.

The GPU includes Neural Accelerators in every core and supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing for graphics-intensive tasks.

Apple has also included a Dual 16-core Neural Engine to improve AI processing.

According to the company, the new MacBook Pro delivers up to 30% faster graphics performance and 25% better AI performance than the previous M5 model.

The laptop comes with 16GB of unified memory as standard, with options to upgrade to 24GB or 32GB.

However, the base 16GB configuration offers memory bandwidth of 153GB/s, while the 24GB and 32GB versions support up to 170GB/s.

Storage starts at 1TB, with 2TB and 4TB options also available.

Improved Connectivity and Battery Life

Apple has equipped the MacBook Pro with its new N1 wireless networking chip.

The chip adds support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, replacing the older wireless standards found in the previous model.

Apple also claims the laptop can deliver up to 24 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Other features remain unchanged, including the 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display, 12MP Center Stage camera, six-speaker audio system, and available ports.

The laptop runs macOS 27 and is available in Space Black and Silver.

iMac Gets Two M6 Chip Options

Apple has also updated its iMac with the M6 processor, offering two different chip configurations.

The entry-level model features a 10-core CPU with two high-performance cores, three additional performance cores, and five efficiency cores. It also includes a 10-core GPU.

The higher-end version comes with a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, matching the processor configuration of the new MacBook Pro.

Both models support hardware-accelerated ray tracing, Neural Accelerators in their GPU cores, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine.

Apple claims the new iMac can deliver up to five times faster on-device AI performance compared with the previous M4 model.

Memory, Storage and Other Features

Both iMac configurations come with 16GB of unified memory and 256GB SSD storage as standard.

The entry-level model supports memory upgrades to 24GB, while the higher-end version can be configured with 24GB or 32GB.

Unlike the MacBook Pro, Apple lists memory bandwidth of 170GB/s for both iMac configurations, including the base 16GB versions.

Storage can be upgraded to 512GB or 1TB on either model. The higher-end iMac also offers a 2TB option.

The new iMac features Apple’s N1 wireless chip, bringing Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity.

Apple has also introduced an optional nano-texture glass finish for the iMac’s display to reduce reflections.

Apart from these upgrades, the iMac retains the same overall design and features as its predecessor.

Price and Availability

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999.

The iMac is available in two configurations, with the 10-core CPU and GPU model starting at $1,499.

The higher-end iMac with a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU costs $1,699.
