Analogue has announced the Super Nt+ and Mega Sg+, updated versions of its retro consoles based on the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis.
Both consoles are priced at $220, with shipping expected to begin in December.
Like the original Super Nt from 2018 and Mega Sg from 2019, the new models use FPGA hardware to recreate the original console architecture on a chip instead of emulating games through software.
This allows users to play original 16-bit games on modern TVs with low latency, but players must provide their own original cartridges.
Wireless Controller Support
The biggest hardware change is built-in support for Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless controllers.
Both consoles include a dedicated pairing button, and users can also turn the systems on and off through the primary wireless controller.
Wired controllers remain supported.
However, Analogue does not include gamepads with either console. Compatible retro-style controllers such as 8BitDo’s M30 and SN30 cost around $30 each.
USB-C, SD Card and New Operating System
The Super Nt+ and Mega Sg+ also add USB-C power, a USB-A port, and an SD card slot.
The USB-A port can be used to connect CRT displays or charge controllers.
Both consoles also feature a redesigned case and a new operating system. Users can now swap cartridges without turning the console off.
More Than 2,200 Games Supported
Analogue says each console supports more than 2,200 games and is region-free.
The Mega Sg+ continues to include a Sega CD connector and comes with a Master System adapter.
Video output reaches up to 1080p, with no support for 4K resolution.
Price and Availability
Each console costs $220, not including the price of a controller if the buyer does not already own one.
Shipping is expected to begin in December.
