CM Sindh Reveals Grand Plan Behind Construction of Road With Electricity Poles in the Middle

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has explained the unusual decision to open a newly constructed road in Hyderabad while electricity poles remained standing in the middle, calling it part of a “grand plan” to pressure the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) into completing their relocation.

The road, which connects Alamdar Chowk to Qasim Chowk and the Old National Highway, became a subject of public criticism after pictures and videos showed electricity poles obstructing traffic along the newly paved stretch.

However, Shah said the provincial government had deliberately allowed traffic to use the road before removing the poles to force HESCO to act.

According to the chief minister, the project initially required land allocation from military authorities and cantonment boards. Chief Secretary Sindh subsequently coordinated with the relevant authorities to arrange the required land.

Meanwhile, the provincial government had already paid HESCO to relocate the electricity poles. However, the utility company delayed the work despite receiving the payment.

Consequently, the administration decided to pave the road and open it to traffic while the poles were still in place. The move was intended to attract public and media attention and put pressure on HESCO to complete the relocation.

Shah added that media coverage played an important role in speeding up the process. Following the public backlash, HESCO had already removed 25 electricity poles from the road.

Meanwhile, the mayor’s office and provincial ministers clarified that the road project remains under construction. They stressed that authorities have neither officially completed nor inaugurated the road.
