Two Popular Trains to Get Major Upgrades
Pakistan Railways will soon upgrade two major trains to modern standards as part of its efforts to improve passenger services and modernize its operations.
Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi informed the National Assembly on Friday that Awam Express, which runs from Peshawar, will receive an upgrade from November 2, while Khyber Mail will follow by the end of January.
During Question Hour, the minister also told lawmakers that Pakistan Railways had digitized its ticket booking system, allowing passengers to purchase tickets through the Rabta mobile app without visiting booking offices. He responded to questions from Aliya Kamran and other members.
Abbasi said the department had installed 329 point-of-sale machines at 236 booking centers. Passengers can use these machines to pay through various banks, Easypaisa, JazzCash and QR codes.
Responding to a supplementary question from Noor Alam Khan, Abbasi said the passenger load on the train operating in Quetta had reached 190% of its seating capacity, reflecting strong demand.
He added that Pakistan Railways was also upgrading Hazara Express alongside Awam Express and Khyber Mail. The minister said Pakistan Railways served the entire country and would not discriminate between provinces in its development plans.
