Balochistan High Court Issues Orders to Improve Traffic Management in Quetta
The Balochistan High Court has directed authorities to remove encroachments, protect newly built roads and improve traffic management and civic infrastructure in Quetta.
A two-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Mulakhail and Justice Muhammad Najmuddin Mengal, issued the orders while hearing a constitutional petition filed by Advocate Syed Nazir Agha.
During the hearing, officials presented a report and video briefing on traffic flow at Zarghoon Road, Railway Station Chowk and Imdad Chowk. The study showed that 9,144 vehicles pass through Railway Station Chowk during peak hours each day.
The court accepted the report’s finding that building a new U-turn near Imdad Chowk would worsen congestion and directed authorities to retain the existing traffic model while improving the current U-turn.
The bench also expressed concern over clogged drainage chambers on Zarghoon Road and Inskumb Road and ordered the immediate removal of debris, garbage and animal waste. It further instructed officials to clear all encroachments, temporary stalls, cabins and illegal parking along Zarghoon Road.
The court told Safe City Project officials not to dig up newly built roads and footpaths for cable laying or pole installation without prior approval.
The bench also reviewed work on the Koila Phatak railway crossing and noted that the relevant memorandum of understanding had already been implemented and payment made.
It raised concerns about congestion near the Frontier Corps checkpoint at Imdad Chowk and called the pace of work on the Sariab Service Road unsatisfactory.
