Pakistan Announces Another Change to ODI Tri-Series Squad
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has released opening batter Saim Ayub from the national ODI squad for the remainder of the ongoing tri-nation series involving Pakistan, England, and Sri Lanka, with Sahibzada Farhan named as his replacement.
The decision comes after Ayub requested permission to return to domestic cricket to improve his batting form and regain confidence.
According to the PCB, the left-handed batter discussed his situation with head coach Mike Hesson before making the request. The team management and national selection committee accepted his decision, appreciating his honest assessment of his recent performances.
Ayub has struggled with the bat throughout the tournament, scoring just 21 runs in three matches. He managed seven runs against Sri Lanka in the opening game, followed by scores of eight and six against England.
Meanwhile, Farhan, who recently captained Pakistan in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, has been included in the ODI squad for the remaining matches.
The latest development follows another squad change on Sunday, when the PCB released left-arm wrist-spinner Sufiyan Muqeem to play domestic cricket, considering the conditions at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Young batter Maaz Sadaqat was subsequently added as cover for players carrying minor fitness concerns.
Pakistan has already secured a place in the tri-series final after winning its first three matches. Its latest victory came against England on Sunday, when Shadab Khan struck an unbeaten 113 and shared an 89-run last-wicket partnership with Haris Rauf to secure a thrilling one-wicket win in Lahore.
The Shaheen Shah Afridi-led side will next face Sri Lanka in the fifth match of the tournament at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday, October 27.
The final of the seven-match ODI tri-series is scheduled for October 31 at the same venue.
