Mohsin Naqvi Shares Important Details About Upcoming F-9 Park Upgrade
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that not a single tree will be cut in Islamabad’s F-9 Park as part of its upcoming upgrade, and that no new concrete structures will be built there.
“Let me make it absolutely clear that not a single tree will be cut, 100% guaranteed,” Naqvi said in a post on X on Sunday.
What the Upgrade Will Include
According to the minister, the plan for F-9 Park, officially known as Fatima Jinnah Park, includes better lighting, a new lake, coffee shops, and improved walkways.
He added that thousands of additional trees will also be planted in the park.
“Our only goal is to make F-9 Park greener, safer, more beautiful, and more enjoyable for families and visitors,” Naqvi said.
Why Residents Were Worried
The clarification came after environmental activists and schoolteachers shared videos on Instagram urging authorities not to develop the roughly 400-acre park “for the sake of development” and to plant more trees instead.
Concerns grew after Naqvi announced on October 21 that the government was reconstructing F-9 Park and planned to develop four new parks in the capital on its model.
The park has been at the centre of a tree-cutting debate before. In 2023, the CDA started cutting around 7,000 paper mulberry trees in F-9 Park to tackle pollen allergies, and later told the Supreme Court that replantation was underway.
Earlier this year, the government also announced plans for a new forest in Islamabad bigger than F-9 Park.
