Classic EA Cricket 07 Now Runs in Your Web Browser With Online Multiplayer
Cricket 07, the cricket game EA Sports released in 2006, can now be played directly in a web browser. The new browser version also adds an online multiplayer mode, so two friends can play a 1v1 match against each other from different places.
The port was made by developer Dhaiwat, who shared it on X on Tuesday. “Cricket 07 with an online multiplayer mode. Play with your friends. All you need is a web browser,” he wrote.
How Online Matches Work
The game runs on a website, cricket07.dhaiwat.com. Players can pick Play Solo to play offline against the computer or with controllers on the same device, or Play Multiplayer for an online 1v1 match.
To start an online match, one player hosts a game and gets a room code to send to a friend. The friend enters the code to join, or opens an invite link shared by the host.
Players can also choose a room server region, including Asia-Pacific, Southeast Asia, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and North America. The site recommends picking a server between the two players when they are in different countries. Input delay can be set from 67 ms to 300 ms, or left on auto.
Large Download on First Visit
On the first visit, the site downloads roughly 1.2 GB of game files and keeps them in the browser’s storage for later sessions.
Dhaiwat advised players facing download errors to use Google Chrome, saying Safari does not work well with it. The project follows a similar experiment in which GTA V ran in Google Chrome without cloud gaming or installation.
Keyboard and Controller Support
The game can be played with a keyboard or a controller. On the keyboard, the arrow keys control shot direction and ball placement, S plays a normal shot or a stock delivery, Shift plays a lofted shot, and D takes a run. Alt + Enter switches to full screen.
Dhaiwat said the game supports controllers, though he had not tested it himself yet. One player replied that they had played a short match with a controller and it worked well.
A 2006 Classic
Cricket 07 was developed by HB Studios and EA Canada and published by EA Sports for Windows and PlayStation 2 in November 2006. The website credits EA Sports with the original game’s copyright and says it was ported to the browser by Dhaiwat.
Newer cricket games have since come from other studios, including Cricket 24, which was set to include official Pakistan and PSL teams.
