PM Shehbaz Removes Minister Who Wanted to Meet Him
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has removed Investment Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh as chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Regulatory Reforms and appointed the federal commerce minister as the new chairman.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh has also been removed from the committee’s membership.
In September, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh said the PM was too busy to listen to his concerns and wasn’t meeting with him despite repeated requests.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan will serve as co-chairman. The Federal Minister for Information Technology and the Minister of State for Finance and Railways have also been included in the committee.
The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) Division will serve as the committee’s secretariat.
The government has also finalized the committee’s terms of reference to simplify regulations and improve the business environment under the Ease of Doing Business initiative.
The committee will review and approve regulatory reforms required under the Ease of Doing Business Act. It will also examine proposals from the Board of Investment to abolish or amend laws, regulations and licensing requirements.
The committee will forward its recommendations to the federal cabinet for ratification and make policy decisions on the reform process. It will also monitor progress and ensure the timely implementation of approved measures.
Its responsibilities include ensuring the timely establishment and operation of a legal registry as part of the regulatory reform process.
