Lahore Launches Rickshaw Training Program for Women

The Lahore Traffic Police has trained 34 women to drive rickshaws under a new initiative aimed at expanding employment opportunities and promoting women’s economic independence.

The training program was organized in collaboration with a private university on the special instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Women received training at driving schools in Bahria Town and Manawan.

Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi said the program aims to help women earn a living by driving rickshaws themselves. He said the initiative provides more than driving skills, giving women an opportunity to become financially independent and lead self-reliant lives.

Shirazi emphasized that women play an important role alongside men in social and economic development. He said Lahore Traffic Police would continue working to promote women’s empowerment, employment opportunities and financial stability.

The rickshaw training program builds on the department’s existing efforts to teach women how to drive. Lahore has established 12 driving schools offering car and scooter training for women, where more than 16,000 women have learned to drive.
