Major Power Breakdown Hits Several Areas of Karachi

A major power breakdown hit Karachi late at night, leaving several areas without electricity after more than 14 K-Electric grid stations went offline.

According to reports, the disruption was triggered by tripping on K-Electric’s high-tension network, affecting multiple grid stations across the city.

Power supply was disrupted in Manghopir, Nazimabad, Khawaja Ajmer Nagri, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, Surjani Town, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Defense, Orangi, Keamari, Sultanabad, PIDC, Hijrat Colony, and Mauripur.

Other affected areas included New Karachi, Lines Area, Lyari, Quaidabad, and Gulshan-e-Hadeed. Electricity remained unavailable in several localities for around 90 minutes before supply began to return.

A K-Electric spokesperson said the disruption was caused by a brief fault in the Extra High Tension (EHT) network, which temporarily affected electricity transmission to several areas.

The company said electricity had already been restored in some affected localities, while teams continued working to normalize supply in the remaining areas. K-Electric added that power supply remained normal in most parts of Karachi despite the temporary disruption.

K-Electric teams are also working to address faults at affected grid stations and on the high-tension network.
