Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the immediate rollout of the federal government’s newly established national central data center, Sky 47, across all federal institutions as part of Pakistan’s integrated digital transformation strategy.
Chairing a review meeting on the implementation of the national digital policy framework in Islamabad, the prime minister said the centralized public sector data center would serve as a single repository for government data.
He also ordered the early convening of the National Digital Commission to ensure coordination with provincial governments and other stakeholders on implementing the country’s digital vision under the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025.
The prime minister said the national digital strategy should initially focus on priority sectors, including health, agriculture, utilities, housing, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to improve public service delivery. He added that the Pakistan Digital Authority is playing a key role in advancing digital government services and urban governance.
According to the briefing, the government’s digital transformation program is also being implemented across energy, food, and other sectors, with work underway in 14 additional priority areas. Officials said the initiative is expected to improve institutional performance, strengthen the economy, and enhance trade and industrial competitiveness.
The briefing further noted that digitizing the housing sector will introduce a central identification number for all public and private properties, while the SME initiative will establish a unified digital identity system for businesses to support productivity and formalization of the economy.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said full implementation of the national digital vision would eventually allow citizens to access government verification services, banking, healthcare, property transfers, and other public services through a single digital identity, aligning Pakistan’s governance framework with international standards.
