ACC President Mohsin Naqvi to Skip Asian Games Final
Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi will not attend the medal ceremony of the Asian Games men’s cricket competition following Saturday’s high-profile final between Pakistan and India at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin.
The ACC confirmed the development through its official social media accounts, saying Naqvi would miss Finals Day because of “prior commitments.”
“ACC President, Mr. Mohsin Naqvi, will miss Finals Day at [Asian Games 2026] due to prior commitments, but sends his very best wishes to all four teams ahead of the Gold and Bronze Medal Matches,” the ACC said.
The bronze-medal match will be played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, while Pakistan and India will face each other in the gold-medal contest.
In a separate statement shared by the ACC, Naqvi wished all four teams well and said he would still be following the action despite being unable to travel to Nagoya.
“Wishing all participants the very best ahead of the gold and bronze medal matches at the Asian Games 2026,” Naqvi said.
“Commitments will keep me away from Nagoya, but I’ll be looking forward to some thrilling action.”
Mohsin Naqvi’s absence also means the Indian men’s team will not face another situation involving the presentation of medals by the ACC president.
A similar controversy emerged after last year’s ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup, when India refused to accept the trophy and medals from Naqvi, who also serves as Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The refusal delayed the closing ceremony before it eventually concluded without the Indian team receiving the silverware. The trophy has remained in Naqvi’s possession since then.
A similar incident took place after the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup final last Sunday. India won the eight-team tournament by defeating defending champion Sri Lanka in the final but again refused to collect the trophy from Naqvi.
