Punjab Begins Collecting Sanitation Fee

The Punjab government has formally notified sanitation fees for residential and commercial properties under the Suthra Punjab Program.

According to a notification issued by the Local Government and Community Development Department, the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has been assigned responsibility for collecting the charges.

The new system took effect on July 1, 2026, and the Excise Department will issue consolidated bills for July, August and September during October.

Consumers will have until October 31 to clear the dues, while an online payment facility is expected to become available by October 15.

In urban areas, monthly sanitation charges for residential properties will be based on property size. Homes measuring up to five marlas will be charged Rs. 300 per month, while those between five and 10 marlas will pay Rs. 500.

Properties measuring 10 to 20 marlas will be charged Rs. 1,000 per month, while homes between 20 and 40 marlas will pay Rs. 2,000. Properties larger than 40 marlas will face a monthly fee of Rs. 5,000.

Commercial premises in urban areas will also be charged according to business size. Small businesses will pay Rs. 500 per month, medium-sized businesses Rs. 1,000, and large businesses Rs. 3,000.
