Punjab Announces Waterfowl Hunting Season Dates
The Punjab Wildlife Department has opened the legal waterfowl hunting season across the province, with hunting allowed from October 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027.
Under the department’s notification, hunters can hunt waterfowl only on Saturdays and Sundays and must obtain a valid shooting permit before taking part.
The department has imposed a complete ban on hunting in all protected areas of Punjab. Hunters must also follow the limits set under Schedule I of the Wildlife Act, with hunting beyond the prescribed number of birds treated as an offense.
Violators can face fines, imprisonment or both under the relevant wildlife laws. The department has also prohibited hunting from vehicles and instructed hunters to avoid damaging crops and private property.
The department directed hunters to comply with all wildlife laws and regulations and said they should treat hunting as a sport rather than simply a means of obtaining meat.
Wildlife authorities will closely monitor major hunting sites across Punjab throughout the season. Zonal, Regional and District Wildlife Officers will oversee enforcement and ensure compliance with the rules.
