Authorities have decided to acquire 25 acres of land to speed up the remaining work on Daducha Dam and build a water treatment plant under the Daducha Dam Water Supply Project.
Section 4 has been imposed on the required site, while a request has also been sent to the District Price Assessment Committee for determination of the land value.
Under the project, 35 million gallons of water per day will be supplied equally to the city and cantonment areas. The project is expected to be completed by 2029.
In addition to the dam, the water supply network, water treatment plant, pumping station, distribution system and transmission line will cost Rs36 billion.
Construction of Daducha Dam, being carried out by the Punjab Irrigation Department, is already 94 percent complete.
The PC-I for the 28-kilometre transmission line, water treatment plant and water distribution system has been approved by the Provincial Development Working Party at an estimated cost of Rs36 billion.
It has also been decided that the project cost will be shared equally by the city and cantonment.
Twenty-five acres of privately owned land near Kak Pul have been identified for the construction of the water treatment plant, water supply distribution system and pumping system. WASA has formally approached the District Price Assessment Committee for land valuation.
