Insurance Companies Paid Over 1 Million Claims Worth Rs. 542 Billion in 2025: SECP
Insurance companies in Pakistan paid more than 1 million claims in 2025, with life and non life insurers collectively disbursing Rs. 542 billion, according to new data released by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan.
The SECP released detailed claims data for the insurance industry for the first time, covering payments made across major categories of life and non life insurance.
Life insurance companies paid a total of Rs. 410 billion in claims during 2025, including more than 33,000 claims related to deaths.
Non-life insurance companies paid Rs. 132 billion in claims. These included more than 720,000 health and accident claims, while over 282,000 motor insurance claims were also settled.
Insurance companies also settled around 11,000 claims related to fire and property during the year.
SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu said publishing detailed claims data would improve accountability in the insurance industry. He said timely claim payments were important for maintaining policyholders’ confidence in insurance companies.
The SECP also reported that the insurance industry’s total premium increased 15 percent to Rs. 778 billion, while the sector’s assets reached Rs. 4.1 trillion.
Premium generated through digital channels increased 71 percent during the year, according to the SECP.
