US President Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his address to the United Nations General Assembly, calling him a “terrific man” while discussing the Pakistan-India conflict.
Speaking at the 81st UNGA session in New York on September 22, Trump said Sharif had credited him with saving 30 million lives by helping bring an end to the military escalation between Pakistan and India in May 2025.
“Pakistan is a great country. PM Shehbaz Sharif, a terrific man,” Trump said during his address.
Trump again claimed that his intervention helped settle the Pakistan-India conflict, listing it among eight conflicts he said he had helped resolve since taking office. He said almost all the countries involved had sent letters thanking him for his role.
The remarks add another notable description to Trump’s public praise for Pakistan’s leadership. He has previously spoken positively about Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Trump’s latest comments came as he highlighted his administration’s foreign policy efforts during his UNGA address.
