GOVY AirCab Makes Pakistan Debut
One of the most notable displays at PAPS 2026 was the GOVY AirCab, a two-seat electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft designed for short-distance urban travel.
PakWheels also spoke with a representative at the event about GOVY’s plans for the technology within the wider low-altitude economy. The term is increasingly used in China for short-range aviation, air taxis, tourism flights, emergency response, and other services operating below conventional airline routes.
GOVY developed the AirCab as the low-altitude mobility arm incubated by GAC Group. GAC Pakistan displayed the aircraft at PAPS as a technology showcase.
Built for Short Urban Trips
The AirCab is designed for short journeys within cities rather than long-distance travel.
According to GOVY, passengers can use one-click booking, while the aircraft supports autonomous flight. Its sensing system can detect objects from more than 300 metres away.
The company also says critical flight systems have built-in redundancy, meaning a single-point failure should not bring down the aircraft.
| Specification | GOVY AirCab |
|---|---|
| Type | Two-seat autonomous eVTOL |
| Intended Use | Urban short-distance travel, tourism |
| Official Range | 20–30 km |
| Official Flight Speed | 120 km/h |
| Seating | 2 |
| Flight Mode | Autonomous |
| Fast Charging | 25 minutes |
| 50–100% Charging | Around 15 minutes |
| Detection Range | More than 300 metres |
The representative also highlighted the aircraft’s sensor-based safety system, which checks the landing area and nearby surroundings before landing.
More Than a Tourism Vehicle
In China, companies are developing eVTOL aircraft such as the AirCab for uses beyond sightseeing.
Potential applications include urban transport, tourism, emergency response, and medical transport. However, wider commercial deployment still depends on aviation certification and local regulations.
GOVY has already carried out demonstration flights and moved the AirCab into production-line development, while its airworthiness certification remains in progress.
What About the Battery?
The AirCab is part of a broader move toward higher-energy-density battery technology in aviation, where reducing weight is even more important than it is for road-going electric vehicles.
GOVY’s management has publicly identified solid-state batteries as an important future option for flying cars because they could offer higher energy density and potentially lower weight than conventional lithium-ion batteries.
Could It Work in Pakistan?
The aircraft could have several potential use cases in Pakistan.
Short aerial routes in congested cities such as Karachi and Lahore, tourism in northern areas, and emergency medical transport could all benefit from this type of aircraft.
However, infrastructure and regulation would present bigger challenges. Pakistan would need certified landing zones, charging facilities, rules for low-altitude traffic, maintenance standards, and a clear approval framework before autonomous air taxis could operate commercially.
For now, the GOVY AirCab displayed at PAPS 2026 is better viewed as a preview of future mobility rather than a vehicle expected to launch commercially in Pakistan immediately.
