Pakistan’s ace wrestler and sports administrator Mohammad Inam Butt has completed a two-month suspension over an anti-doping violation and is set to return to wrestling activities, with the Asian Games 2026 now expected to mark his comeback.
According to documents and sources familiar with the case, Inam’s suspension remained in effect from July 19 to September 18. He has now been informed by the International Testing Agency (ITA) and international wrestling authorities that he is eligible to resume wrestling-related duties.
Following the end of his suspension, Inam is expected to travel to Japan with Pakistan’s wrestling squad as a coach.
Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) President Arshad Sattar was initially scheduled to accompany the team, but will no longer travel following Inam’s return.
The case, however, has also resulted in the withdrawal of Inam’s silver medal from the Asian Beach Games, which he won in beach wrestling in China earlier this year.
Inam tested positive for a prohibited substance after taking medication for an eye condition. He informed anti-doping authorities that the medicine had been used for legitimate medical treatment and was not intended to enhance his sporting performance.
Sources said the authorities accepted his explanation regarding the medical use of the drug. However, the issue arose because Inam had not informed the relevant anti-doping officials about the medication within the required time.
Under anti-doping regulations, athletes are responsible for ensuring that prohibited substances used for legitimate medical purposes are properly declared and authorized where necessary.
The ITA subsequently accepted Inam’s position and granted him permission to use the medication for one year, according to the sources. Despite this, the violation resulted in the withdrawal of his Asian Beach Games silver medal.
Inam had also temporarily stepped away from his administrative responsibilities after the doping issue emerged. He serves as secretary of the Pakistan Wrestling Federation and heads the Pakistan Athletes Commission of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA).
With the suspension now completed, he has returned to his administrative duties and is set to rejoin Pakistan’s wrestling setup ahead of the Asian Games.
