Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $274.129 million in the first two months of fiscal year 2026-27, nearly $27 million or nearly 9 percent less than the $300.741 million spent during the same period last year, data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics showed.
The import bill fell more sharply in rupee terms, declining 10.53 percent to Rs. 76.267 billion in July and August from Rs. 85.245 billion a year earlier.
August mobile phone imports stood at $133.6 million, nearly 13.8 percent lower than the $155.129 million recorded in August last year and 4.80 percent below the $140.434 million imported in July 2026.
The broader telecom import picture moved in the opposite direction during the two-month period. Telecom equipment imports climbed 8.95 percent to $432.044 million from $395.536 million in the corresponding period last year. In rupee terms, these imports increased 6.95 percent to Rs. 120.211 billion from Rs. 112.398 billion.
Higher telecom equipment imports came as investment continued in network expansion and preparations for next-generation mobile services in the country.
Despite the overall increase during July and August, telecom equipment imports lost momentum in the second month. Imports dropped to $197.269 million in August, down 3.42 percent from $204.263 million a year earlier and 15.98 percent from $234.775 million in July.
