The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a 7% increase in freight rates following a sharp rise in fuel prices.
Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan said diesel prices have increased by Rs. 26.88 per liter over the past seven days, while petrol prices have risen by Rs. 20 per liter during the same period.
According to Awan, the increase in fuel prices has raised operating costs for the goods transport sector, making it difficult for transporters to maintain existing freight rates.
The higher freight charges could also increase the cost of transporting food, industrial products, and other essential goods across the country, raising concerns about further increases in commodity prices.
The announcement comes after the government increased the price of diesel by another Rs. 3.47 per liter, taking it to Rs. 424.92 per liter.
