Dubai’s Electronic Security Centre has announced SARAAB, an artificial intelligence model designed to detect deepfake videos with 91% accuracy.
The centre introduced the tool at GISEC Global 2026 in Dubai. It said SARAAB is the first deepfake detection model in the Arab world built entirely by a government agency to identify digitally manipulated content and counter impersonation threats across public and private sectors.
An Emirati team developed the model in six months. DESC said SARAAB scans entire video clips and generates heat maps with moving hotspots to identify manipulated frames.
Unlike tools that analyse only a single image, SARAAB reviews video content from start to finish. This allows it to detect even short clips that contain altered frames within otherwise genuine footage.
DESC said it will release an open-source version of SARAAB on Hugging Face and other developer platforms. The move will allow researchers, developers and engineers to study the source code, test performance and build customised versions.
The centre said the tool could help protect digital media, strengthen cybersecurity and improve trust in online content.
