Punjab’s Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Program Selected for UN-Habitat Honour
Punjab’s flagship housing initiative, the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Programme (ACAGP), has been selected for the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award.
The Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency received the official notification from the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, and the provincial government has been invited to receive the award on October 5 during World Habitat Day celebrations in Muscat, Oman.
UN-Habitat said it chose the programme after a competitive global evaluation. It said the initiative stood out for expanding access to safe, adequate and affordable housing for low-income households.
The award notification, signed by UN Under-Secretary-General and UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Marinheiro Centeno Rossbach, praised the Punjab programme’s impact and invited officials to attend the ceremony.
UN-Habitat will provide travel support, including an economy-class ticket, accommodation, daily allowance and logistical assistance for the recipient’s participation.
Launched in August 2024, the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Programme has already disbursed interest-free loans worth Rs 259.68 billion to 200,072 applicants across Punjab as of September 10, 2026.
