Long-Delayed Karachi K-IV Water Project Set to Resume After World Bank Approval
Work on the Karachi K-IV Augmentation Project is expected to restart after the World Bank gave conditional approval to move ahead with procurement.
The project will carry water from the main K-IV system to large reservoirs before supplying it to different parts of Karachi through pipelines. It is expected to provide better water access to more than two million people.
Officials said the procurement process is now at an advanced stage, and the project advertisement may be issued soon.
The approval comes with some conditions. Authorities must inspect the 96-inch pipeline and complete repair work near major flyovers and the NIPA bridge corridor by August 20, 2026.
The project had been delayed because of concerns over construction quality, weak supervision, environmental measures, and public safety along University Road.
The Sindh government has asked the concerned departments to meet the required standards and avoid further delays.
