Ex-PM Nawaz Sharif Appointed Chairman of Lahore Heritage Area Revival Board
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been appointed chairman of the Lahore Heritage Area Revival Board, marking his first government position since his removal from office in 2017.
The appointment takes effect immediately, according to a notification issued by the Punjab Local Government and Community Development Department on July 23.
Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan constituted the board under Section 8-A of the Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority Act, 2012.
Nawaz Sharif, who serves as president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and represents NA-130 in the National Assembly, will lead efforts to preserve and revive Lahore’s historic areas.
The board will oversee conservation, restoration, development, and urban renewal projects in designated heritage zones. It will also work to protect key landmarks and promote the city’s cultural and architectural heritage.
The body is part of the Punjab government’s broader heritage conservation drive launched in 2025 under the Lahore Authority for Heritage Revival (LAHR).
The initiative is aimed at strengthening heritage protection and reinforcing Lahore’s status as one of South Asia’s most important historical and cultural centers.
