The Met Office has forecast rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms, with isolated hailstorms, in the upper and central parts of the country from the weekend, with occasional gaps.
According to the forecast, a westerly wave is likely to enter the upper parts of the country from Saturday and may persist until October 15.
Punjab and Islamabad
Rain-windstorm and thunderstorm, with isolated hailstorms, are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Faisalabad on October 10, 11, 13 and 14, with occasional gaps.
Rain-windstorm and thunderstorm are also expected in Multan, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Sahiwal, Okara, Pakpattan and Khanewal on October 10, 11 and 13.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The forecast says rain-windstorm and thunderstorm, with isolated hailstorms, are likely in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Hangu, Lakki Marwat, Karak, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan, as well as Waziristan, from October 10 to 15.
Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan
Rain-windstorm and thunderstorm, with isolated hailstorms, are expected at isolated places in Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan, including Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar, from October 10 to 15, with occasional gaps.
Balochistan and Sindh
Mainly hot and dry weather is expected in Balochistan. However, rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms are likely at isolated places in Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel on October 10, 11 and 13.
Sindh is expected to remain mainly hot and dry in the coming days.
Possible impacts
- The Met Office warned that light snowfall may occur over high mountains and glaciers.
- It said windstorms, hailstorms and lightning may damage weak structures such as kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels.
- Hailstorms may also damage standing crops in the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
- Day temperatures are likely to fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius during the forecast period.
- Farmers have been advised to manage crop activities in line with the weather conditions.
- All concerned authorities have been asked to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward situation.
