The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority has seized and destroyed around 3,000 kilograms of substandard and rotten meat recovered from a passenger bus in Peshawar.
According to a spokesperson for the authority, the Peshawar food safety team had set up a checkpoint near Kala Mandi on Grand Trunk Road to inspect vehicles transporting food items.
During the inspection, officials discovered a large quantity of rotten and substandard meat concealed in compartments of a passenger bus. The meat was declared unfit for human consumption and was later destroyed at the WSSP dumping area.
The spokesperson said transporting meat in concealed compartments was a violation of food safety and hygiene standards. Legal proceedings have been initiated against those involved in transporting and supplying the unsafe meat under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety Act.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Food Dr. Muhammad Israr Khan praised the food safety team for the operation and said no leniency would be shown to those involved in supplying hazardous food to the public.
He directed officials to intensify action against unsafe food and strengthen monitoring of the transportation and sale of food products across the province.
Dr. Israr said providing safe, hygienic, and quality food to the public remains one of the government’s top priorities and warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found compromising public health.
