Three members of a local cricket team were killed and three others injured when unidentified armed men opened fire on their loader rickshaw in Lakki Marwat on Sunday.
According to SHO Aslam Khan, the group was returning to Abdul Khel after playing a cricket match in Shah Hasan Khel when armed men intercepted their vehicle near Abdul Khel and opened fire.
The deceased were identified as Umer, Siddiq, and Aliyan. Three others, Asifullah, Imdadullah, and Ejaz, suffered bullet wounds and were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police said most of the victims were cricket players or members of a local peace committee. Following the initial attack, some local youths reportedly exchanged fire with the assailants. Police said there were reports that one attacker may have been killed, but the claim had not been independently confirmed.
Hospital spokesperson Wali Khan confirmed that three bodies and three injured people were brought to the facility.
A heavy police contingent reached the area and cordoned it off before launching a search operation for the attackers.
Police said the motive for the attack and identities of those responsible would be determined as the investigation progresses. The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in Bannu and nearby areas.
