218 KG of Polythene Bags Confiscated in Islamabad Enforcement Drive

The Islamabad district administration has seized 218 kilograms of polythene bags in ongoing enforcement operations against the use of plastic shopping bags as part of efforts to make the federal capital plastic-free.

The administration said daily action is being carried out across the city, while awareness campaigns are also continuing to encourage citizens and traders to stop using plastic bags.

According to the district administration, assistant commissioners conducted operations in different areas against violations of the plastic bag ban.

During these actions, 218 kilograms of polythene bags were confiscated, and several shopkeepers found violating the ban were shifted to police stations for further legal action.

Officials said the enforcement campaign is being carried out daily without discrimination. The administration reiterated its commitment to implementing the ban and ensuring compliance by businesses operating in the capital.

Along with enforcement, the district administration is also running an awareness campaign to inform the public and traders about the harmful effects of plastic pollution.

Officials said plastic pollution can cause health problems for citizens and also poses risks to the environment.

The administration said shopkeepers are being directed to completely stop using plastic shopping bags and adopt permitted alternatives instead. Traders are also being encouraged to cooperate with authorities and comply with the regulations aimed at reducing plastic waste in the city.

The district administration has urged citizens to support the campaign by identifying and reporting shopkeepers who continue using plastic bags despite the ban.

Officials said public cooperation is important for the successful implementation of the policy.

Citizens have also been advised to use cloth bags and other environmentally friendly alternatives while shopping. The administration said replacing plastic bags with reusable options will help reduce waste and support efforts to keep Islamabad free from plastic pollution.
