18 Sectors to Come Under FBR By December

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) plans to make tax monitoring systems operational across 18 sectors by December 31, 2026, to help the government improve tax collection and curb evasion.

A meeting on FBR reforms chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was informed on Monday that monitoring systems have been fully installed in the sugar, cement, tobacco, tiles, and fertilizer sectors.

Installation work is underway in textiles, packaged water, packaged juice, and packaged milk. Equipment purchases for these sectors have been completed.

The government plans to purchase equipment for the steel, poultry, and tire sectors by October 15. Equipment procurement for tea, domestic electronics, leather, paper and board, and oil and ghee is scheduled for completion by October 30.

The monitoring systems across all 18 sectors are expected to become fully operational by the end of December.

The meeting also reviewed progress on FBR reforms and the readiness of the systems following a detailed assessment of productive sectors. The prime minister appreciated the team involved in the review.

According to the briefing, government enforcement measures have generated an additional Rs. 1.3 trillion in taxes over the past three years, representing a 40 percent increase in tax revenue.

The government attributed the additional collection to enforcement measures.
