At least 16 children and a schoolteacher have been killed and 47 others injured after a school roof collapsed in the Dir Colony area of Peshawar.

According to Rescue 1122, the death toll reached 17, with a schoolteacher among those killed.

A total of 47 people reportedly sustained injuries in the incident.

SP Peshawar City said rescue operations are continuing, and authorities are gathering details to determine how many children were enrolled at the school.

Preliminary information indicated that around 75 children were in three classrooms at the time of the collapse.

The injured are being shifted to hospitals, while rescue teams are working to evacuate the children as quickly as possible.

However, narrow streets in the area are creating difficulties for rescue teams and hampering the operation.

This is a developing story.
