Opening of Park Road Underpass Delayed
The Capital Development Authority has missed the July 30, 2026, deadline for completing and opening the Margalla Enclave underpass on Park Road in Islamabad.
The underpass was scheduled to open to traffic by July 30. However, construction work continued after the deadline, leaving motorists to face congestion and difficult diversions.
The project will provide access from Park Road to DHA Margalla Enclave. While the underpass may improve traffic flow after completion, the ongoing construction has turned daily travel into a serious challenge for commuters.
Diversions Cause Traffic Congestion
Motorists regularly face long queues near the construction site. The temporary diversions have reduced the available road space and slowed traffic during busy hours.
Meanwhile, some drivers use the wrong side of the road near the diversions. This creates additional congestion and makes the route more dangerous for motorists following the correct direction.
Residents also complain that Islamabad Traffic Police officers are rarely present near the affected area. As a result, wrong-way driving and other traffic violations often continue without proper control.
Park Road Residents Face Repeated Disruption
Park Road residents have already endured years of inconvenience because of the earlier rehabilitation and widening project between Rawal Chowk and Taramri Chowk.
Work on that project began in April 2023. The CDA originally planned to complete it within six months. However, the project missed several deadlines and continued to cause traffic problems for residents and commuters.
Residents Demand Immediate Completion
Residents have urged the CDA to complete the Margalla Enclave underpass without further delay. They also want the Islamabad Traffic Police to improve traffic management around the diversions.
They say the prolonged construction is forcing commuters to waste fuel, time and energy while sitting in traffic every day.
Residents have also demanded action against motorists driving in the wrong direction. They believe better traffic enforcement and faster construction can provide immediate relief until the underpass finally opens.
