Govt Deploys Army and Rangers for England and Sri Lanka Ahead of Pakistan Series
The federal government has authorized the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Rangers to provide security during the visits of the Sri Lankan and English cricket teams.
A notification confirming the deployment was issued following approval from the federal cabinet. The personnel will perform security and protection duties at the request of the Punjab Home Department and Islamabad’s chief commissioner.
According to the notification, the Army has been deployed under Article 245 of the Constitution, while the Rangers’ deployment falls under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka will play three T20 internationals at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The opening match is scheduled for October 9, followed by the second on October 11 and the third on October 13.
The T20 series will be followed by a seven-match ODI tri-series involving Pakistan, England, and Sri Lanka.
The first three matches of the tri-series will take place in Rawalpindi. Lahore will host the remaining league fixtures and the final.
Sahibzada Farhan will captain Pakistan’s 15-member T20I squad, while Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead the 16-member ODI squad. Babar Azam is included for the ODI competition but is not part of the T20I squad.
The tri-series will begin with Pakistan facing Sri Lanka on October 18, followed by England on October 20. Each team will play the other two twice before the final at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on October 31, according to the announced schedule.
