Punjab Takes Action Against 250 Businesses Over Digital Transaction Irregularities
The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has intensified its crackdown on restaurants, hotels and other businesses for failing to use the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS) and maintaining irregular digital transaction records.
According to a PRA spokesperson, the authority issued notices to 250 businesses that were not connected to EIMS over the past 24 hours. It also fined 30 business operators for irregularities in digital payments and violations of tax laws.
Meanwhile, the authority registered more than 50 new businesses during the same period. The enforcement operations took place in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Rawalpindi.
The PRA has directed businesses to maintain accurate sales records through EIMS and comply with applicable tax laws. The authority is also taking action against businesses that evade taxes or manipulate digital records, causing losses to the national exchequer.
The spokesperson urged consumers to use the PRA Facilitation App to verify their receipts. Citizens have also been advised to lodge complaints on social media platforms against businesses that issue unverified receipts or refuse to accept digital payments.
The spokesperson added that the effective use of EIMS is helping prevent potential financial irregularities and expand the tax net across Punjab.
The provincial government is continuing efforts to modernize the tax system and expand digital monitoring to improve transparency and ensure greater compliance with tax regulations.
