KP Announces Rs. 1 Billion Welfare Package for Journalists

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has allocated Rs. 1 billion for the welfare of journalists and increased the Journalists’ Endowment Fund from Rs. 200 million to Rs. 500 million.

Provincial Information Minister Shafi Jan announced the measures during visits to the Haripur and Abbottabad press clubs. He said the welfare package would also provide financial assistance to journalists for medical treatment.

The visits were part of the provincial government’s public outreach campaign, launched on the directives of Chief Minister (CM) Muhammad Sohail Afridi to engage directly with citizens and address local issues.

Addressing journalists, the information minister said cabinet members had been directed to visit every district, hear public grievances, and ensure their prompt resolution.

He said KP was witnessing unprecedented development under the leadership of CM Afridi. He also highlighted that the current provincial budget included the highest-ever allocation for the education sector.

Describing journalism as a sacred profession, Shafi Jan paid tribute to journalists who lost their lives during the war against terrorism.
