Pakistan has finally been removed from the Listed Areas of the Joint War Committee (JWC) and is no longer a high-risk maritime zone for international shipping vessels.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the decision is expected to reduce shipping costs, improve the competitiveness of Pakistani exports, and strengthen the confidence of international shipping companies, traders, and investors.
The JWC, representing the Lloyd’s Market Association and the International Underwriting Association, designates maritime regions considered exposed to heightened security risks. Vessels operating in these areas typically face additional war-risk insurance premiums.
A government committee led negotiations with Lloyd’s officials using technical evidence, ultimately securing Pakistan’s removal from the list.
The government expects the move to make Karachi Port, Port Qasim, and Gwadar Port more attractive to international shipping lines while supporting Pakistan’s ambition to become a regional logistics, transit, and transshipment hub.
